Counter Café

An independent canal-side cafe and coffee roastery in Hackney Wick

Although marooned in an industrial estate in Hackney Wick, The Counter is well worth a trip from far afield for its sturdy New Zealand breakfasts, perfect coffee and laidback atmosphere. Siblings Tom and Jess are the double act behind the venture. Growing up in Auckland, the pair were initially appalled by the lack of good coffee in London when they made it across the pond. Not wanting to leave us in caffeine poverty (kind souls) they took it upon themselves to set up The Counter in creative haven Hackney Wick.

Whether you’re after a croissant (£2ish), baguette with bacon and avocado (£4ish) or the full monty (around a tenner), The Counter has something for everyone. They’ve also branched out into pies, but it’s the breakfasts that keep us repeatedly traipsing across London.

  1. This was a very touching post and a most difficult question to answer. There are lots of these in life. What do you tell a 6 y/o when his grandfather dies? What do you tell a kid who’s been picked on for being different? My 6 year old can ask the toughest questions and sometimes, I just don’t have the perfect anGsar.wreet post, T.

    1. Taking the ovvreiew, this post is first class

  2. Well as a lay man, what I understand is that the carbon in the air does not let sunlight escape once it enters the atmosphere. So, because carbon holds on to sunlight, it increases the atmospheric temperature. At the same time too much carbon blocks sunlight, and so it brings about a dimming phenomena.
